Throwing a Spook-tacular Halloween Party

We are a yard sign company that loves to celebrate BIG here in the Lehigh Valley! We make and install customized yard signs for all occasions. Join us at SGLV to learn how to make your Halloween bash, an epic, graveyard SMASH!

Knowing your Audience:

Halloween parties are fun because they can be celebrated by everyone. While you plan, think about your guests. Some Halloween decorations and activities can be scary for younger children. Consider their reactions to spooky themes. Teens and tweens may be fine with a scary Halloween, but younger children need a tame Halloween that focuses on costumes and sweet treats. If you think something might not be a hit with a guest, skip the activity!

Summoning your Guests:

Make your party stand out from the get-go! Invitations don’t just have to be boring text messages. Send a digital flyer, or a silly card! Buying in bulk from Amazon or the craft store saves on money and time, but you can also have fun by making them yourself! If you are making your cards, make sure they pop! Use recognizable Halloween shapes like pumpkin silhouettes, or make 3D scare cards to mimic jumpscares!

Making a Haunted House:

A Halloween party without appropriate decor is like a witch without their broom. Go all out by decking the walls, floor, and ceiling with everything that screams “HALLOWEEN.” Cobwebs are an easy touch to add to walls and ceilings. If you don’t want to splurge on fake cobwebs, make them yourself! Hang up spare yarn, or break apart cotton balls or dryer lint to create the wispy look. For extra pizzazz, add a fake spider on top! Have empty floor space? Invite a few special guests! Buy skeletons, mannequins, and iconic Halloween movie characters. It also doesn’t hurt to add functionable decor. Buy a witch’s brew stand with a built-in bowl to store your candy.

Feasts for the Beasts:

To avoid a horde of hungry zombies, it is essential to have plenty of food! Don’t worry, candy is at the top of our list too! Make sure to leave the label on everything you buy so kids and parents can check for allergens. Keep in mind that nut allergies are very common. Are you looking for an interesting drink to serve? Combine fruit punch and candy eyeballs. You can also go for bigger treats like cake or cupcakes. Order a custom cake, or choose from the many Halloween options at grocery stores. If you’re feeling creative, buy baking supplies and make your own. This can be done before the party, or even as an activity!

Fall classics are also a Halloween hit. This is the perfect time to live out the autumn experience and try a caramel apple. Have a firepit outside? Make some s’mores. Bonus points if there are spooky stories! Don’t forget our scariest suggestion of all…vegetables. Offer celery sticks and carrots as a side option to sand-witches. With all of that sugar, it is important to have a few nutritional options!

Fangtastic Activities:

There is so much you can do to make sure your Halloween party doesn’t get boring! Of course, trick-or-treating is a classic. Take your guests on a trip around the neighborhood, or stage a miniature trick-or-treat by setting up stations around the house, or preparing a trunk-or-treat in the driveway. For a relaxed party, treat your guests to a Halloween movie marathon. Add these to your watchlist: Scooby Doo, Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, Goosebumps, and the animated Addams Family!

If you’re looking for hands-on activities, we recommend carving jack-o-lanterns. Buy a couple of small pumpkins, carving kit tools, and stencils, then let imagination do the rest. Make sure you do this activity on a table, newspaper, or outside, as pumpkins can get messy! For safety, this activity is best suited for older kids. All children should be monitored and sharp tools should be used only by adults. Creativity also comes in the form of photography. Throw a costume photoshoot to create fun memories with kids and instagramable moments for teens!

Do you have a kid with a Halloween birthday? No problem at all! All of these activities can be paired with cake and presents!
